Contribution Ekta Sketchbooks I-III
Jonas Wettre managed the scanning and post production of EKTA’s original sketchbooks for the release of Ekta Sketchbooks I-III.
Jonas Wettre was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1972. Wettre studied photography in Gothenburg and Stockholm, and graphic printmaking at Biskops-Arnö, Sweden, Bergen National Academy of the Arts, Norway, and the University of South Florida, Tampa Bay, USA. Between 2002 and 2012 he worked at Gerhard Steidl’s legendary Steidl imprint, in the design and pre-press departments, and is currently a freelance designer and creative retoucher based in Ljungskile, Sweden.
During his decade as a Steidl employee, Wettre made portraits of the countless artists – from Robert Frank to Lou Reed and Lars Tunbjörk – visiting the publishing house in Göttingen. Alternatively using a Polaroid SX-70 Land camera with its classic square format and an EE100 sheet film camera, he recorded many of the seemingly random yet unique moments that take place at Steidl everyday. Wettre’s Once There Were Polaroids is both an unconventional portrait of bookmaking at ‘Steidlville’ and a candid portrait of his subjects.
Jonas Wettre scanned and post-produced the pages from artist Daniel EKTA Götesson’s sketchbooks for the book Ekta Sketchbooks I-III, published by LL’Editions in 2017.
