Brygg Öl by the men behind the success of Omnipollo – brewer Henok Fentie and designer Karl Grandin – is the first book in Swedish on the subject since “Ölbryggning” by Svante Ekelin and Håkan Lundgren was published 25 years ago.
The book straightforwardly and illustratively shows how to brew good beer at home in the kitchen with simple equipment. Additionally, there is a chapter on the anatomy of beer, with descriptions of malt, hops, yeast, and water. Finally, there is a recipe section where the authors present recipes for about ten of Omnipollo’s beers, as well as beers from breweries such as Brooklyn Brewery and Evil Twin.
The step from drinking locally produced beer to brewing your own at home doesn’t have to be very large. Homebrewed beer, made with simple equipment, has the potential to be at least as good as professionally brewed beer – in many cases even better. Henok Fentie and Karl Grandin, the founders of the phantom brewery Omnipollo, develop all their recipes at home in the kitchen before collaborating with a brewery somewhere in the world to produce the beer in larger volumes.
In Brygg Öl, in addition to about ten recipes for Omnipollo’s best beers, there are also recipes from Evil Twin Brewing, Sea-Goat Brewing, Helsingborgs Hembryggargille, and Brooklyn Brewery. Additionally, the book provides basic information on how to brew beer, step-by-step pictures, and facts for those who want to delve deeper into the anatomy behind it.
